Control cabinets coolers using a vortex tube

Controlcabinets are in every production area and their maintenance, among other things, is also related to their internal temperature. Especially in the summer months, the increased temperature is undesirable and can in extreme cases lead to partial or complete shutdown of technological units. The most common cooling solutions for control cabinets are air conditioning units. Air conditioning solves the temperature quite reliably, but it also brings an increased cost in the form of energy operation, and especially every air conditioning requires increased maintenance activity. It is necessary to clean the air conditioning at regular intervals, add coolant, and have an overhaul due to the electrical appliance.

The MOS Technik has developed a cooling device that is very simple, inexpensive and maintenance-free. We solve the cooling of control cabinets with a small additional box, which contains a vortex tube, a pneumatic thermostat, a pneumatic valve and an internal plastic hose adapted to the size of the cabinet.

Step by step:

- Vortex tube - this is a special tube that divides the incoming compressed air into cold and hot parts. In this case, we are mainly interested in the cold part, which in this case is set to air with a temperature of up to about 0°C. And just the end of the tube, blowing very cold air, points inside the cabinet/switchboard. At the end, a flexible plastic hose is connected, which distributes cold air more evenly into the cabinet.

- Thermostat - determines at what temperature the pneumatic valve should start. For example, in summer the internal temperature reaches 32°C, the thermostat starts a vortex tube, which starts blowing cold air inside. As soon as the temperature inside drops by approx. 10°C, the thermostat switches off the pneumatic valve. Like the vortex tube, the thermostat is routed inside the cabinet/switchboard.

- Pneumatic valve - starts the vortex tube, is controlled by a thermostat and connected to compressed air.

And that's all. I will add that the solution is connected to the compressed air distribution, ie. the drive is only compressed air.

Advantages of the solution compared to the used air conditioning units:
- low acquisition and operating costs
- maintenance-free design
- no need for el. revision
- delivery with a template according to which the cooling is placed on the cabinet/switchboard
